The Presence of Absence, 2018, Dal Schindell Gallery, Vancouver, B.C.

This body of work is an attempt to convey the palpable nature of absence through the imagery of empty chairs and the transcendent, numinous quality of presence through abstract fields of color and pattern. It began as a study of grief after the death of my mom, transitioned into an experience of the absence of God, and culminated in a theophany of God's presence. The "Testimony" pieces are more specifically personal, using domestic materials to tell an everyday story of the presence of God in my life.

Exhibited at Lookout Gallery (now The Dal Schindell Gallery), at Regent College in Vancouver, B.C., and served as master’s thesis.
